Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacist for a 13-week assignment at a healthcare facility in Nome, Alaska. This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist looking to gain experience in a dynamic, multi-faceted environment while serving a unique community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Order Verification: Review and verify medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.

  • Sterile Compounding & Verification: Prepare and verify sterile products according to hospital protocols.

  • Clinic Inspections: Conduct inspections of various clinic pharmacies throughout the hospital.

  • Multi-Pharmacy Work: Provide clinical pharmacy services across different departments, including:

    • Acute Care Pharmacy: Order verification, drug therapy monitoring, lab review, and renal dose adjustments. Provide drug information to healthcare teams and counsel patients on discharge medications.
    • Primary Care Pharmacy: Offer drug information, perform proactive chart reviews, authorize refills, provide anticoagulation services, and administer adult and pediatric vaccinations.
    • Quyanna Care Center (Long-Term Care): Conduct chart reviews, offer medication consultations, and prepare prescriptions and medisets.
    • Outpatient Pharmacy: Enter, fill, and verify prescriptions, provide patient counseling, and administer vaccinations.
    • Village Health Services: Support village clinics with prescription entry, Pickpoint optimization, community health aide support, and clinic inspections.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Work closely with physicians on drug therapy selection and monitor patient outcomes.

  • Formulary & Drug Usage: Participate in formulary review processes, monitor drug usage, and ensure cost-effective therapies.

  • Education & Preceptorship: Precept pharmacy students, provide staff education, and serve on P&T committees when applicable.

Requirements:

  • Active and Clear Pharmacist License in any state (Licensure in Alaska is not required for this position)
  • Inpatient Pharmacy Experience (Required)
  • 2+ years of experience preferred, or 1 year of post-graduate residency experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience in clinical pharmacy services, medication therapy management, and direct patient care

Additional Information:

  • Housing: On-site housing is provided by the hospital.
  • Transportation: Travel to and from the site is included in the contract.
