$75 Million in Prescription Drugs Stolen
Thieves recently broke into an Eli Lilly warehouse in Enfield, Connecticut and made off with an estimated $75 million in prescription drugs. The thieves entered the warehouse at night by cutting a hole in the roof and rappelling down to the ground below. At that point they disabled the alarm system and were able to spend several hours loading the pallets into an awaiting truck.
Edward Sagebiel of Eli Lilly was unable to comment on the availability of surveillance video due to the ongoing investigation. Sagebiel did note that the items stolen included anti-depressants, oncology products, and “other neuroscience products.” He added that the company believes that the drugs will be recovered and that there is little chance that they would end up in any pharmacy supply chain. Stolen pharmaceuticals often become part of black market trafficking.
Fox News reports that investigators believe that the same group may be responsible for pharmaceutical break-ins in Tennessee and Mississippi in addition to this Connecticut heist.
