Federal Form W-4
The purpose of Form W-4 is to inform your employer on exactly how much money to withhold from your paycheck. This withheld money will go towards your federal income taxes.
Form W-4 is a four-page packet with five steps. The first step requires everyone to provide their name, address, social security number, and filing status. Steps two through four are optional and only apply to certain people. For example, if you have multiple jobs, claim dependents, or have any other special adjustments, then steps two through four may apply to you. Lastly, step 5 is simply signing the form.
Federal Form I-9
Officially titled the Employment Eligibility Verification form, the I-9 Form verifies your identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Every United States employer requires the completion of Form I-9 for anyone they hire.
To complete Form I-9, you must first provide personal information such as your name, address, and birthday. You are also required to present documents from an approved list that proves your identity and employment authorization. For example, a passport proves both your identity and employment authorization.
