Moldy Odor Causes Tylenol Recall
Johnson & Johnson has issued a recall for 50 count bottles of Tylenol caplets stamped with lot number BCM155. The recall covers 127,728 bottles of eight-hour pain medication. The announcement was made in response to reports that the medication has a moldy, musty odor.
The Pennsylvania plant where the caplets were manufactured has been closed down for upgrades after an FDA investigation found grime, contaminated ingredients, and thick dust. The company has shifted production to alternate plants to make up for the closing. The upgrades are expected to be completed in 2011.
Last January, Johnson & Johnson issued a similar recall for specific lots of Tylenol, Motrin, and Rolaids for a similar moldy smell. The company traced the smell back to a chemical ingredient used in the wooden pallets used to store and transport packing materials.
