This direct hire opportunity offers a leadership role as the Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) for a newly established specialty pharmacy in Lufkin, TX. The PIC will play a crucial role in managing the pharmacys build-out and launch, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and establishing operations in collaboration with specialty care clinics. This position requires hands-on involvement in insurance contracting, Board of Pharmacy regulations, accreditation processes, and day-to-day dispensing activities.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, hours TBD
  • Onsite role with potential relocation support

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the designated PIC responsible for licensure, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory compliance
  • Lead pharmacy build-out and operational setup in a start-up specialty pharmacy environment
  • Manage insurance contract onboarding and work with regulatory bodies, including the Board of Pharmacy and accreditation organizations
  • Supervise and train pharmacy staff while ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and quality standards
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize specialty medication outcomes and patient care coordination
  • Oversee inventory management, including temperature-sensitive drug handling and recalls
  • Conduct audits, maintain documentation, and lead responses to regulatory inspections
  • Support specialty medication benefits verification, prior authorizations, appeals, and financial assistance to ensure patient access

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation in Texas
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree
  • Prior PIC or pharmacy manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings (inpatient experience not suitable)
  • Strong knowledge of specialty pharmacy workflows, medication access processes, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with pharmacy software systems such as QS1, PioneerRx, or specialty platforms; EMR experience is a plus
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including provider appeal letter composition
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in problem solving and patient-centered care
