Retail Pharmacist in Charge in Pasadena, TX
A unique opportunity is available for a licensed Pharmacist-in-Charge to lead the opening and daily operations of a newly established specialty pharmacy. This role requires relocating to Lufkin, TX, and offers the chance to shape the pharmacys foundation from build-out through launch and ongoing operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations, including oversight of controlled substances, licensing, and regulatory inspections
- Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge, accountable for all aspects of pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance
- Manage daily dispensing activities to ensure accuracy, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols
- Develop, maintain, and enforce policies covering prescription processing, drug storage, and security measures
- Lead audits and maintain thorough records for Board of Pharmacy, DEA, accreditation agencies, and insurance contracts
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff to uphold quality standards and continuing education requirements
- Collaborate closely with specialty care clinics and providers for optimized patient outcomes and medication management
- Oversee inventory management, including procurement, temperature-sensitive drug handling, and recalls
- Drive strategic planning efforts to support pharmacy growth, service expansion, and value-based care objectives
- Act as clinical expert supporting patient counseling, prior authorization reviews, therapeutic substitution, and medication access initiatives
Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted PharmD license in Texas with eligibility to serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge
- Prior Pharmacy-in-Charge or Pharmacy Manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy; inpatient experience will not be considered
- Extensive knowledge of specialty medications, benefits investigation, prior authorizations, and financial assistance processes
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, clinics, and patients
- Skilled in pharmacy software such as QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, or WAM; bonus for EMR (EPIC, Cerner) and specialty pharmacy systems (Therigy, Asembia1)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including composing appeal letters for medication coverage
- Comfortable working in a start-up environment, building workflows, and implementing operational processes from the ground up
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a collaborative mindset
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, hours to be determined
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $135,000$150,000, plus performance bonus
