Retail Pharmacist in Charge - Tyler, TX
This direct hire opportunity based in Lufkin, TX offers a dynamic role for an experienced Pharmacist in Charge to lead the launch of a new specialty pharmacy. As the PIC, you will play a critical role in establishing pharmacy operations, obtaining necessary insurance contracts, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards. This position offers a unique chance to apply your leadership skills in a start-up environment with a focus on specialty outpatient pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of pharmacy build-out, licensing, and regulatory compliance including Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and accreditation requirements.
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations to ensure safe, accurate dispensing, adherence to clinical protocols, and exceptional patient care.
- Serve as the designated Pharmacist in Charge, accountable for controlled substance oversight and regulatory inspections.
- Collaborate with specialty care clinics to optimize medication management and improve patient outcomes.
- Lead audits, maintain records, and coordinate regulatory responses.
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff to maintain quality standards and regulatory compliance.
- Navigate insurance benefits, prior authorizations, and financial assistance to ensure patient access to specialty medications.
- Participate in strategic planning for pharmacy growth and service expansion.
- Implement and refine workflows and processes for specialty pharmacy operations.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license in good standing eligible for PIC designation.
- PharmD or equivalent advanced degree.
- Prior experience as a Pharmacist in Charge or Pharmacy Manager, specifically in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy (inpatient experience will not be considered).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and lead teams.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software (e.g., QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx), EMR (EPIC, Cerner, NextGen), or specialty pharmacy systems (Therigy, Asembia1) is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with providers and compose appeal letters.
- Demonstrated knowledge of specialty medications and willingness to learn new therapeutic areas.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, hours to be determined.
This role includes a competitive compensation package with salary ranging from $135,000 to $150,000, performance bonuses, equity stake, and unlimited paid time off.
