Retail Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) | Whitehouse, Texas
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced pharmacist to serve as the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) for a new specialty pharmacy opening in Lufkin, TX. This direct hire role offers the chance to lead the build-out and operational launch of a specialty pharmacy dedicated to optimizing medication outcomes for specialty patients through collaboration with specialty care clinics. The position requires relocation and starting ASAP, with hours Monday through Friday (specific times to be determined).

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage pharmacy build-out, licensing, and pharmacy opening processes
- Ensure strict compliance with state/federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, and DEA standards
- Serve as the designated PIC with full accountability for licensure, controlled substance oversight, and inspections
- Lead daily pharmacy operations focused on patient safety, accurate dispensing, and adherence to clinical protocols
- Oversee insurance contracting and facilitate onboarding with payers
- Supervise and train pharmacists, technicians, and staff ensuring quality and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate closely with providers and clinic staff to optimize patient care, medication access, and formulary management
- Conduct audits, maintain records, and coordinate regulatory responses
- Manage inventory including temperature-sensitive medications and recalls
- Drive workflow development and continuous quality improvement in a start-up environment
- Support pharmacy growth and value-based care initiatives
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Active, unrestricted PharmD license eligible to serve as PIC in Texas
- Prior PIC and pharmacy manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy required (inpatient pharmacists not suited)
- Strong leadership, operational, and regulatory knowledge for launching and managing specialty pharmacy operations
- Proven ability to navigate specialty medication benefits, prior authorizations, appeals, and financial assistance for patients
- Experience with pharmacy software (QS1, PioneerRx, ComputerRx), EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner), or specialty pharmacy platforms a plus
- Excellent collaborative, communication, and organizational skills, including strong written communication for appeals and provider correspondence
- Adaptability and initiative to create workflows and solve problems in a start-up setting
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary $135,000 - $150,000 plus potential performance bonuses
