Position Overview
We are seeking a Remote Staff Pharmacist for a 13-week contract supporting a rapidly growing pharmacy operation experiencing increased prescription and patient volume.
This position offers a unique combination of clinical pharmacy services and patient consultation, with the role split approximately 50/50 between prescription verification and direct patient interactions.
Candidates must be comfortable handling both inbound and outbound patient calls.
Schedule
Candidates may indicate their preferred shift from the following options:
- 8:00 AM4:00 PM EST
- 9:00 AM5:00 PM EST
- 10:00 AM6:00 PM EST
- 11:00 AM7:00 PM EST
The pharmacy operates seven days a week, with operating hours extending from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM EST.
Candidates may express a preferred shift, and the team will make every effort to accommodate that preference; however, shift placement is not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive patient counseling and medication education by phone.
- Answer patient questions regarding new prescriptions, refills, side effects, adherence, and proper medication use.
- Handle inbound and outbound patient calls while providing a high level of customer service.
- Collaborate with prescribers and their offices to clarify prescriptions and resolve clinical issues that could delay dispensing.
- Clinically review and verify new and refill prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, drug interactions, contraindications, and dosing accuracy.
- Perform final pharmacist verification of prescriptions in a high-volume, closed-door fulfillment environment.
- Verify the accuracy of medication, dosage, quantity, and labeling prior to dispensing.
- Assist pharmacy leadership and staff with receiving, processing, and transferring patient prescriptions.
- Take ownership of prescription transfers from initiation through completion.
- Support a fast-paced pharmacy environment while maintaining accuracy, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- Active Idaho Pharmacist license required, or willingness to obtain/register for an Idaho license.
- Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States, provided they meet the Idaho licensure requirement.
- New graduates are welcome to apply.
- Retail, specialty, or mail-order pharmacy experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Comfortable conducting frequent patient consultations by phone.
- Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to patient safety.
Candidates residing in St. Louis, MO; Boise, ID; or Pittsburgh, PA may not be eligible for the remote position and may instead be considered for an onsite opportunity.
