Inpatient Pharmacy Manager - Reno, NV
An opportunity is available to lead pharmacy operations in a post-acute specialty hospital setting with 25 staffed beds and an average daily census of 23 patients. This contract role, located in Reno, NV, spans 8+ weeks and provides an engaging environment to oversee medication management and patient safety within a focused inpatient hospital pharmacy.
Work Schedule:
- Pharmacy hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
- Weekend, after-hours, and on-call coverage required
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify medication orders, assess for drug interactions, and ensure proper dosing aligned with patient needs
- Manage and supervise medication distribution to patient care units, including medication carts, automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis), and emergency medication supplies
- Provide leadership and training for pharmacy technicians; develop staff schedules and performance
- Oversee inventory control including medication ordering, stock monitoring, controlled substance management, and waste reduction
- Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, hospital policies, and accreditation standards
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and patient care
- Participate in medication safety initiatives to uphold the highest patient safety standards
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active and clear Nevada pharmacist license is mandatory
- Proven experience in IV compounding within an inpatient hospital setting
- Strong leadership and staff management skills
- Familiarity with hospital pharmacy systems; Wellsky experience is highly valuable
- Comfortable operating with Pyxis automation system
- Ability to handle on-call pharmacist responsibilities during off-hours, supported by remote order entry services
