Outpatient Pharmacy Technician | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
An experienced Certified Pharmacy Technician is needed to support a prescription prior authorization team within a major health systems outpatient pharmacies. This role involves working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist to efficiently manage prior authorization requests, ensuring timely processing and clear communication with clinical and pharmacy teams. The position starts with onsite training followed by remote work, offering a blend of in-person support and flexibility.
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: MondayFriday, 8:00 AM5:00 PM
Hours: 40 hours per week, guaranteed
Assignment Type: Local Contract, 13 weeks
Work Arrangement: Onsite training for approximately 812 weeks, then fully remote
Responsibilities:
- Identify and complete appropriate pharmacy benefit manager prior authorization forms
- Review and transfer prescription, prescriber, and patient information from the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Assess patient charts and clinical documentation to complete authorization requests accurately
- Submit prior authorizations and follow up within required timeframes
- Communicate authorization statuses to pharmacy and clinical teams
- Maintain detailed documentation of all prior authorization activities
- Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, providers, and outpatient pharmacy staff
- Utilize ICD-10 codes, drug information, and disease-specific resources appropriately
- Meet departmental productivity and quality standards
- Maintain proficiency with required Microsoft applications and remote-work technology
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification
- Minimum of three years pharmacy technician experience
- Strong preference for 35 years in high-volume retail pharmacy settings
- At least one year of prior authorization experience
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems
- Excellent data-entry, communication, organizational, and follow-up skills
- Ability to work independently in a metric-driven environment
