Retail Pharmacy Technician - Westerville, OH
A pharmacist technician role focused on specialty retail pharmacy offers a unique opportunity to directly impact complex patient care. This position supports patients managing 8 to 15 medications daily, many coping with advanced chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, patience, and a deep understanding of the top 200-400 drugs commonly found in retail pharmacy settings.
Location: Westerville, OH
Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (no weekends)
Type: Contract, 8 weeks with potential for contract-to-hire based on performance
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepare prescriptions for patients with complex medication regimens
- Apply specialized knowledge to support patients managing multiple chronic conditions
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with a largely Medicare/Medicaid population, many with low literacy levels
- Utilize pharmacy software (Pioneer Rx experience preferred, training available) to process orders and maintain records
- Collaborate closely with pharmacists and healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proven retail and/or specialty pharmacy technician background is highly preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with chronic illness patients, explicitly noted on resume
- Strong ability to explain medication instructions clearly and patiently to diverse patient populations
- Familiarity with managing prescriptions for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and MS
- High level of empathy and cultural competence when working with low-income and low-literacy patients
