Inpatient Staff Pharmacist - Athens, Wisconsin
A rehabilitation hospital pharmacy is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Staff Pharmacist to support inpatient medication management and enhance patient care. This role offers an opportunity to transition from a contract to a full-time position based on performance and fit.
Location: Athens, WI
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Primary coverage from 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM (hours negotiable)
- Weekend, after-hours, and on-call coverage shared with pharmacy management
- Pharmacy operating hours shifting to 8:00 AM 9:00 PM with this hire
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and safety
- Prepare, dispense, and verify medications including sterile IV compounds (limited IV compounding required, no chemotherapy)
- Monitor patient medication therapy, review labs, and recommend clinical interventions
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize medication use
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies as well as state and federal regulations
- Provide drug information and counseling to healthcare staff and patients
- Supervise and support pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy personnel
- Maintain detailed documentation of interventions and patient records
- Manage controlled substances and maintain inventory levels
- Participate in medication safety initiatives and quality assurance activities
- Stay current with pharmacy practice standards and clinical guidelines
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Active and clear Wisconsin pharmacist license
- Experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy practice, including IV compounding
- Familiarity with pharmacy automation systems such as Pyxis and hospital information systems like Wellsky
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, patient-focused environment
About the Facility:
- Rehab hospital with 30 staffed beds and an average daily census of 28
- Pharmacy team includes 2 pharmacists and 1 technician
