Mail Order Long Term Care Staff Pharmacist in Eden Prairie, MN
A contract opportunity is available for a Staff Pharmacist specializing in Long Term Care (LTC) and Mail Order pharmacy services. This role involves variable shifts Monday through Sunday, with weekday hours ranging between 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM and weekend shifts from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. The assignment is for 13 weeks and based in Eden Prairie, MN.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accept and dispense prescription medications accurately and safely.
- Monitor patient medication adherence and patterns of over-usage to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
- Verify the suitability of prescribed medications for patients.
- Maintain confidential and precise patient records, managing pharmacy files effectively.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and answer medication-related inquiries.
- Provide consultations on prescription and over-the-counter medications, including advice on storage, dosages, side effects, and drug interactions.
- Offer additional patient services such as smoking cessation support, blood pressure monitoring, and cholesterol management.
- Educate patients on the correct use and handling of medical devices like blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
- Compound medications for both internal and external use, including sterile solution preparation following proper procedures.
- Supervise pharmacy staff, including technicians and clerks, ensuring efficient workflow and compliance with pharmacy protocols.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
- Identify and communicate drug-related problems to physicians and healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and pharmacy interns.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is required.
- Minnesota Pharmacy license is mandatory.
- Experience in Long Term Care pharmacy is highly preferred.
- IV compounding experience is a plus but not required.
