IV Sterile Compounding Home Infusion Staff Pharmacist - Newark, NJ
A contract opportunity is available for a skilled pharmacist specializing in home infusion pharmacy, offering a 10-week assignment with daytime hours. This role demands a professional with experience in sterile compounding and hospital or home infusion pharmacy settings.
Location: Newark, NJ
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with potential extension to 7:00 PM based on business needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform final prescription checks, lab reviews, and ensure thorough documentation while supporting pharmacist tasks without processing prescriptions.
- Accept and dispense prescription medications in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor patient medication adherence and detect over-usage patterns to ensure safety.
- Verify the suitability of prescribed medications for patients.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and pharmacy files.
- Provide patient counseling on medication usage, potential side effects, and answer related inquiries.
- Offer education on prescription and non-prescription medications including storage, dosage, and drug interaction guidance.
- Deliver patient services such as smoking cessation support, blood pressure monitoring, and cholesterol management.
- Instruct patients on the correct use and maintenance of medical devices like blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
- Compound medications for internal or external use, preparing sterile solutions according to established protocols.
- Supervise pharmacy staff including pharmacy technicians and clerks, ensuring efficient operation.
- Manage pharmaceutical and medical supply inventory with attention to accuracy.
- Identify drug-related problems and collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, and pharmacy interns.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is required.
- Valid New Jersey pharmacy license.
- Experience in home infusion or hospital pharmacy environments.
- Proficiency in sterile compounding is highly desirable.
