Hospital IV Sterile Compounding Staff Pharmacist - Totowa, NJ
This role offers an opportunity to contribute your pharmacy expertise within a home infusion environment, supporting patients with specialized medication needs. The position involves a 10-week contract during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with occasional extended hours until 7:00 pm as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform final checks, conduct lab reviews, handle documentation, and complete pharmacist-specific tasks as necessary, without processing prescriptions.
- Accurately accept and dispense prescription medications according to legal and clinical guidelines.
- Monitor patient medication compliance and detect over-usage patterns to ensure safe medication practices.
- Ensure prescriptions are appropriate for patient care.
- Maintain confidential patient records and pharmacy documentation diligently.
- Provide expert consultation on prescription and over-the-counter medications, covering proper administration, side effects, dosages, and interactions.
- Educate patients about medical device use, including blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
- Offer additional patient services such as smoking cessation support, blood pressure monitoring, and cholesterol management.
- Compound medications, including sterile solutions, following strict procedural standards.
- Supervise pharmacy staff, including technicians and clerks, fostering an efficient and compliant work environment.
- Manage inventory of pharmaceutical and medical supplies.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to resolve drug-related issues and optimize patient care.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
- Valid New Jersey pharmacist license.
- Experience in home infusion or hospital pharmacy settings.
- Sterile compounding expertise is highly desirable.
